In 2018 the Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church decided to close many of the Methodist churches in the city of Harrisburg. Their concern was the declining congregations. This decision caused a great deal of concern, anger, and pain throughout the affected congregations. 

Eight churches, out of ten voted NOT to close. Derry Street UMC and Camp Curtin Memorial Mitchell UMC decided, after much prayer and discernment, to leave their church buildings and the United Methodist denomination. Members of these two congregations along with members of Crossroads Baptist Church formed CROSSROADS CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES
